About This Site

This site will be moving to a modified URL at: http://www.ursa.atsu.edu.  The new URL is active and parallels the content available here.  Please update your links.

The main physiological emphasis of the site is in respiratory, cellular, and cardiovascular physiology since these are the areas of my own expertise.  For pragmatic reasons, this site has been optimized for Microsoft Internet Explorer® although Netscape Navigator® should produce good results with much of the site.

Cardiac Output and Venous Return curves are an important tool for understanding that the blood vessels as well as the heart contribute to the control of blood flow to the  organs of the body.  Dr. Baer has written a short tutorial to help the beginner use this basic tool.  To download a copy of this tutorial, click here.

calculator for the clinical staging of community-acquired pneumonia (CAPCalc®) is now available for your educational use!  This calculator is one of 3 such calculators featured in the Dec. 19, 2002  issue of New England Journal of Medicine (Halm EA, Teirstein AS, NEJM 347(25): 2040, 2002).

Some of the regular feature for medical students on this web site include: streaming lecture archives (winter and spring, using Windows Media Technologies), slide sets (winter and spring), or better yet, combined slides and streams (winter and spring), lecture notes (Microsoft Word), clinical case studies, an interactive classroom called LiveClass, and more,   Note that the LiveClass interactive classroom is available to only KCOM students (and then just when Dr. Baer is lecturing) and is password protected.

2ND Year KCOM students looking for respiratory board review questions, click here for the power point slides or here for the printable handout page.

For fun, you (or your kids) might enjoy viewing this cute and informative "World of Science" program stream by Kristin Baer on gas solubility. The segment is aimed at early K-12 youngsters and is 15.5 minutes long.

Please feel free to suggest other things you would like by EMAILing Dr. Baer.
